How to Watch YouTube Videos Picture in Picture on iPhone in iOS 14

iOS 14 brings system-wide functionality for picture in picture mode. The YouTube app for iPhone and iPad doesn't support it yet, but you can use this trick as a workaround.

Open YouTube videos in Safari, in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, and you're able to swipe-up for picture in picture streaming, from the full-screen window.

Learn how to move the picture in picture thumbnail across the iPhone Home Screen. You can also hide it completely and continue to listen to the audio playback while you multitask on your iPhone or iPad.

Quick controls allow you to Pause / Play the video, rewind and fast forward. The Picture in picture video screen closes automatically when video ends. You can close it sooner if you tap the 'X', available in the top-left corner.

Notice that the picture in picture video thumbnail displays in landscape or portrait orientation, depending on the video format.
